Please join us on Monday, October 13th for a fun-filled trip to southeastern Illinois. This trip will include the following stops:

Wood River History/Shell History Museum: Step back in time more than 75 years in Roxana, Illinois. Featuring over 1,000 artifacts, the museum offers a visual review of the refinery's many changes and significant progress from its groundbreaking in 1917 to the present. Exhibits, photo displays and a special videotape tell the story of how the legacy of Shell’s Wood River Refinery unfolds over three-quarters of a century. Today's Wood River Manufacturing Complex is a premier refinery serving the vast Midwest market.

Grafton Winery: Situated in the heart of historic Grafton along the "Great Rivers Scenic Byway", this is truly a winery designed for all seasons. Sit back and relax while sipping your wine as you take in the view of the confluence of the Mississippi and Illinois rivers from one of our spacious patios or from glass enclosed seating areas. Enjoy watching the eagles soar, the wildlife and surrounding vegetation coming to life, pleasure boats on the river, and of course the famous changing colors of the leaves.

Hakuna Matata: An all-weather, 53’ foot, 49 passenger, Coast Guard licensed tour boat, will take you on a wonderful adventure on the Illinois and Mississippi Rivers. There is seating and cafe tables on both the upper and the lower decks. The first level of the boat is fully enclosed with large windows and is seasonally air-conditioned and heated. The upper deck is a huge open air patio offering 360 degree views of the river, bluffs, islands and historical points of interest along the way making it perfect for nature, photography and family photos.

Holidays and other significant days can be especially difficult after the loss of a loved one. Butler Funeral Homes & Cremation Tribute Center invites the community to discover, uncover and nurture hope by attending a Holiday Help program on Sunday, November 9, 2014. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held from 2-4 p.m. at the Hilton Springfield, located at 700 E. Adams Street in Springfield. Parking in the Hilton Garage is complimentary.

Suzanne Howell, M.A., LCPC, a national expert on grief, will present practical ways to help people get through the holidays and other significant days. Topics will include, identifying coping skills to get through the holiday season, learning creative ways to integrate the memories of loved ones in to new traditions and rituals, and embracing grief and the pain and fear that accompany it. A memorial candle-lighting ceremony will also take place to honor loved ones.

Because holidays and other significant days are when families and friends traditionally celebrate together, it is important to let those who are grieving know that they are not alone. Each year, Butler Funeral Homes dedicates itself to offering the community the most comprehensive holiday bereavement program in the area, in the hopes that we are able to help facilitate the process of healthy grief resolution.

Butler Funeral Homes is proud of their tradition in Springfield and the surrounding communities, and consider it a privilege to provide the Holiday Help program to their friends and neighbors each year.

The Holiday Help program is open to the public, with no cost or obligation.
