Catherine Jean VanDenBossche, 82, of Springfield, passed away at 7:20 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at St. John's Hospital.

Jean was born February 22, 1930 in Springfield, the daughter of Clifford and Bessie Mae Newman Langenfeld. She married James Robert on September 11, 1948; he preceded her in death.

Jean was employed as a Secretary of the Catholic Diocese from 1979-1989 and SIU School of Medicine, retiring in 1994. She was a member of Sangamon Home Extension, AARP, and had been a member of Little Flower Catholic Church since 1950.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, John Robert Langenfeld and Rev. Thomas G. Langenfeld, CSV.

She is survived by her son, John R. (wife, Paula) VanDenBossche of Bloomington; four daughters, Dorothy J. (husband, Tom) Hart of Springfield, Patricia A. (fiancé, John Fleck) Wrigley of Chatham, Janet (husband, Richie) Smock of Ashland, and Mary Kay (husband, David) Murphy of Petersburg; twelve grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; seven siblings, Rose Marie (husband, Bob) Weymouth of Island Lake, IL, Theresa L. (husband, Steve) Ulrich of Zanesville, OH, Clifford J. Langenfeld of Garden Grove, CA, Richard L. (wife, Jane) Langenfeld of Dixon, IL, Mark A. (wife, Meda) Langenfeld of Normal, Gary P. Langenfeld of O'Fallon, MO, and Michael D. (husband, Herman) Langenfeld of Springfield.

Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 18, 2013 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 5:00 p.m.

Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Church of the Little Flower, 800 Stevenson Dr., Springfield with Rev. Msgr. John R. Ossola, celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
