Edgar "Bob" Rulison, 81, of Springfield, IL made his transition to be with The Lord at 1:10 a.m. on Sunday, October 17th at St. John's Hospice in Springfield, IL.
The son of Edgar Robert Rulison, Sr. and Marguerite Barnes Rulison, Bob was born January 31, 1929 in Chicago, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Jim, Jack and Tom, and grandson, Joshua Hoffman.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Powell Rulison; daughter Cherlynn Hoffman; sons, Steven (wife, Dianne) and Robert Rulison; grandson, Nathan Hoffman (wife, Sara), all of Springfield; granddaughters, Kathy Rulison of Houston, TX, Kelly Rulison and Chelci Wilson; grandsons, Gary Wilson and Travis Mundy of Jerseyville, IL; sisters, Marilyn Poynter of Kankakee, IL, Betty Jones (husband, Malcom) of Independence, KY Bonnie Paton (husband, William) of Thousand, Oaks, CA; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Bob graduated from Kankakee High School in June 1948 and went on to college at Chicago Tech, where he graduated with a Bachelors Degree in engineering. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War Era. Because of his education, he was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska where he worked on a 1952 construction project near Fairbanks with the 21st Engineer Battalion. He was a senior cost estimator with the Illinois Department of Transportation where he was employed for 32 years.
Bob was a member of First United Methodist Church in Springfield and was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and a loyal friend to so many. He was a man who enjoyed giving more than he did receiving.
Cremation accorded by the Butler Cremation Tribute Center.
Family will receive friends from 9:30-11:15 a.m. on Friday, October 22, 2010 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield, with a memorial service to begin at 11:30 a.m., with Dr. Bob Swickard officiating.
Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery where military honors will be provided by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
