Marcella "Sally" Pipkin, 88, of Springfield, died on Monday, May 21, 2012 at her home.
Sally was born April 16, 1924 in Springfield, the daughter of Ernest and Louise Amrhein Schafer. She married L. Murray Pipkin Jr. on July 21, 1951; he preceded her in death.
Sally was a graduate of National College of Education and taught for a while before having her own children. After her children were raised, she went back to substitute teaching. She was an active member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and volunteered at Ronald McDonald House, St. John's Breadline, and Caregiver Interfaith Volunteers Services. Sally enjoyed spending time with her many children and grandchildren. She was an avid reader and enjoyed knitting and shopping.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; and four sisters.
She is survived by her sons, William (wife, Chris) Pipkin of Tallahasse, FL, James (wife, Sue) Pipkin, Thomas (wife, Bonnie) Pipkin, and Robert (wife, Teri) Pipkin, all of Springfield; daughters, Louise (husband, Rick) Kaufmann of Toledo, OH, Barbara Pipkin of Phoenix, AZ, Katherine (husband, Greg) Kaufmann of Springfield, and Mary (husband, Tony) Goldstein of Mechanicsburg; twelve grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial Gathering: Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the Memorial Mass at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1725 S. Walnut St., Springfield.
Memorial Mass: 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with Rev. Jeff Grant celebrant. Burial will take place at a later date.
