Wallis "Wally" Gary Biesenthal, 67, of Springfield, died at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday, April 19, 2012 at Memorial Medical Center.
Wally was born May 4, 1944 in Los Angeles, CA, the son of Paul and Margaret Bale Biesenthal. He married Barbara Klespitz on January 25, 1963 in Springfield.
Wally was a 1962 graduate of Lanphier High School and worked at Bunn-O-Matic and later owned WB Construction Company. He formerly attended St. Jude's Church in Rochester. Among his many accomplishments, Wally built a house in the middle of White Oaks Mall and held a patent on one of his inventions. He enjoyed working in his workshop, spending time with his grandson, Tucker, and tinkering with his iPad.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Biesenthal of Springfield; one son, Michael Biesenthal (companion, Wendy Bui) of San Jose, CA; one daughter, Michele (husband, Scott) Whitehead of Mason City; seven grandchildren, Tucker Biesenthal, Dustin, Stacey and Stephanie Whitehead, Avari Purcell, Max and Conrad Stetter; eight great-grandchildren; father, Paul Biesenthal of Quincy; siblings, Connie (husband, Joe) Evinsky of Springfield and Richard (wife, Susan) Biesenthal of Chicago; one niece, Pam Payton; and two cousins, Marvin and Norma Jean Biesenthal.
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, April 23, 2012 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.
Funeral Ceremony: 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, with Celebrant Judy Woerner officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
